In compiling the database, relevant EU and Hungarian legal requirements for data protection and the processing of personal data were complied with.

The database is freely accessible to researchers and users and provides the possibility to use the data for scientific, educational, and genealogical purposes. However, the use must not be in a way that would violate Hungarian or EU data protection legislation, in particular with regard to privacy rights, personal rights and the Data Protection Directive, nor be incompatible with the ethical principles of archival research.

The database may contain so-called sensitive data concerning identifiable persons. Sensitive personal data are subject to special protection, and the heirs of the deceased person are entitled to monitor and restrict the processing of such data if it harms the dignity or reputation of the deceased person.
